April 2012
The band is back in the studio and are targeting this summer to complete tracking. But of the16 songs targeted for inclusion, there are already several songs in a near completed state. Hard to believe, but it would not be unrealistic to see a Fall 2012 release!!! Video: Barry from Aardvark Records has published the 2 promotional videos from "The Wonder of it All" on YouTube. Both "DaVinci's Art" and "Flying Cars (1959)" are enjoying a fruitful second life, amid the funny dogs and farting kittens! So, check them out on YouTube!! Davincis Art Flying Cars (1959) August 2011 It's been awhile between updates but that doesn't mean that things aren't happening in the BC camp. In fact, there are numerous songs slated for the new CD that are in a near finished state. Advanced listening sessions have been held with a few key musical allies and the reviews are unanimous; this is some of our best stuff ever!! We've posted some songs here on the site player for a preview! Meanwhile the band is simultaneously locked in rehearsal mode as we gear up for a few key shows that are scheduled for the beginning of October. The band kicks off the shows with a private party on Sept 30th and the Austin debut of the new lineup Sat Oct 1st (9:00) at the Beauty Bar. The following week Blue Cartoon performs on Friday Oct 7th (9:45) in Dallas at the 2826 Arnetic club. Both shows are part of the International Pop Overthrow - festival. If you haven't seen us live, this is not to be missed. But if you have caught one of our rare performances, this goes double! You absolutely must witness the power and chops of the new lineup! Both Austin shows will also bring a bonus as "The Spandrels" will also be doing a set. For those not aware, The Spandrels are basically Blue Cartoon (sans drummer) with strangely tuned guitars and other instruments. Its the same songwriting, but interpreted in a psychedelic, folk vein. The Spandrels will be performing a matinee public performance, also at the Beauty Bar 1:00 PM on Sat Oct 1st. This is part of the daily scheule for The International Pop Overthrow festival August 2010 FIRST BC ALBUM IS AVAILABLE AS DOWNLOAD Aaradvark Records has made the first Blue Cartoon album available as a download. Out of print now for almost 10 years, the CD has only been available on eBay or other on-line used shops for some rather silly prices. BLUE CARTOON on eMUSIC We're pleased to say that now, all four of our albums are finally available as downloads on eMusic! RECORDING PROGRESS July and August were busy months as far as writing, arranging and recording go. At the moment we have 9 new songs in various stages of recorded development and we have at least as many more on our list to record. However, the band will be a bit geographically-challenged for the next several months which will slow progress a bit. Plans are to finish a few tracks for digital release by end of year but it will most likely be Spring 2011 for the release of the album. Thats about it for now...we'll have another update in September. Cheers! Blue Cartoon ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- July 2010 Welcome to our new website! We'll be posting monthly news updates to keep you informed about what were up to. We start by bringing you up to date: BLUE CARTOON IS BACK! Yep. After a long self-imposed hiatus, we are reformed, refreshed and ready to do it all over again. The new line-up is as follows: Terry Carolan - Guitar, keyboards, vocals Lee Elliott - Bass, vocals David Loren - Vocals, keyboards Mike Reynolds - Drums Jeff Tracy - Guitar, vocals We've been rehearsing and working on new material since January and it's sounding great. In April we did a low-key gig in Houston and we'll probably sneak out of our rehearsals and recording sessions to do a few more gigs before the new album is done. We'll keep you posted. NEW TRACK FOR INTERNATIONAL POP OVERTHROW 2010 It's been about 4 years or so since we've contributed a track to David Bash's annual International Pop Overthrow compilation. For the 2010 edition we've submitted our anthemic power-ballad "If I Could Do It (All Over Again)" which you can also listen to on this site. We couldn't work out logistics to perform at the IPO festival in Los Angeles this year but we are considering playing an IPO event or two after completion of the album. DIGITAL HORS d'OEUVRES FORTHCOMING By Late Summer/Early Fall we should have 4 new songs available for download on this very website. In addition the the aforementioned "If I Could Do It (All Over Again)", the band is readying the following songs: - Only Love - Success - Should Have Known Better BACK CATALOGUE REMIXED/REMASTERED Barry Simon of Aardvark Records has plans to remix the first four Blue Cartoon albums starting with 'Downtown Shangri-La'. Although the project is in early stages, the plan is to include 5.1 Surround mixes. Are we anxious to hear 'The Center Of The Universe' in Surround Sound? Hell, yeah! There's also a possibility of including bonus tracks of songs that did not make the final stages of the original releases. As you may already know, the first three Blue Cartoon discs are long out of print, but there are still copies of 'September Songs' available directly from Aardvark. You can also occasionally find copies through Amazon or CD Baby. THE SPANDRELS ARE COMING! Dave and Lee are in the final stages of completing 'Sleeper', which is the debut release of their side project, The Spandrels. 'Sleeper' was recorded in fits and starts during Blue Cartoon's hiatus and includes guitar and vocal contributions from Jeff. If things go according to plan, 'Sleeper' will be available as a sprawling 23-song/2-CD set. And the music? Lee calls it 'acousti-delic folk rock' but that's an over-simplification. It's certainly a folk-rock album, but one with the scope and disparate chaos of the 'White Album'. CHRISTMAS IN JULY? In December of 2009 Jeff released his Christmas album, 'Angels In The Snow'. The album features classic Christmas songs with splendid retro arrangements, which can only be topped by Jeff's delightful self-penned title track. It's not too early to start shopping for Christmas! And while you're are it, don't forget to pick up a copy of Jeff's 2007 release 'Moments In Time' which features the full force of Blue Cartoon on the power-poppin' title track. Both available from Aardvark Records. Well, that about covers it for now. There will be a lot more news, as well as new tracks added in the upcoming weeks. So please stay tuned! Cheers! Blue Cartoon
